The aura is a manifestation of the energy field present in all living things. Once regarded the realm of mystics and seers, modern science has lent a hand towards 'proof' of this phenomenon by a method called Kirlian photography. With Kirlian photography, the aura is seen as a white band around living objects. With a little practice, anyone can see this aura unaided with their own eyes, but it may take sometime to be able to see colours. Some people never achieve this colour ability, do not be worried if you cannot - you are not alone! The aura is divided into two main parts, a bright inner aura known as the 'etheric' that extends for only a few centimetres from the body, and is the same shape as the physical body itself. The second is the outer aura known as the 'astral'. It consists of a faint oval shaped aura (narrow top and bottom) surrounding the etheric centre, and extends for anything up to 3m (9ft) from the central point. These figures are deliberately vague, as the size and brightness of the aura will depend upon the individual under observation. These outer zone is further divided into six parts, giving seven zones in total. Each of these zones corresponds to a chakra centre, starting with the base chakra in the etheric, the sacral chakra at the inner point of the astral, ending with the crown chakra at the very outer edge of the astral. Since it is the chakras that generate the aura, physical problems and blockages in the chakras are reflected in the aura of a person. For more information on chakras, see the relevant section on this site.
Although you may not be able to see auras at this moment in time, you are almost certainly aware of them. How? Our own auras reflect our emotional state, and can even be affected by what we do for a living. Have you ever found that when you are feeling happy and full of joy, people of a similar disposition seem to be attracted towards you (or you to them), and likewise when you are feeling down you tend to gravitate towards similarly depressed individuals? All this association is the subconscious 'seeing' auras.
How do I see auras? Here is a simple exercise.
Stand in front of a mirror at a distance of about half a metre, with a wall of
neutral colour some distance behind you. Alternatively, get a friend to stand
about 1 metre (3ft) away from you and 2 metres (6ft) from a neutral wall.
Relax, and breathe
deeply and evenly. Focus your eyes on the wall behind the head.
Gently sway your body from
side to side (or tell your friend to if looking at someone else).
As you stare
past the outline of the head, you should be able to see an envelope of light that moves with the person -
it the etheric aura!
The room and subject should be illuminated by subdued lighting, but not in darkness or direct sunlight. With practice, you will be able to see auras without the swaying and under less than ideal lighting conditions, although I doubt if you will ever see them in bright direct sunlight or in total darkness. Observing people in the street can be fascinating, but staring wide-eyed at strangers is likely to provoke unwelcome attention. You are better advised to practice and improve techniques in the confines of you own home, observing yourself or a friend. Do not worry if you cannot see colour at this stage, in time you may.
If you are one of the lucky ones and can see colour, here is a brief guide to meanings...
Red - The person has strong vitality, and
expresses the physical.
Orange - Energy and health. Dark or muddy orange
can indicate lower intelligence.
Yellow - Shows a passionate loving person. Dark or
muddy yellow can indicate that the person is hiding something.
Green - A balanced person, calm and content. Green
auras usually show versatility, however if dark they indicate deceit or
jealousy.
Blue - Strong intellect, and logical thought
processes. Bright blue indicates intuitiveness, whereas dark blue shows an over
analytical nature.
Indigo - Shows wisdom, artistic ability and a
devotional nature.
Purple - Shows spiritual attainment and mystical
consciousness.
