Major Arcana

Death

13 - Death

This card usually strikes fear into subjects that have not had a tarot reading before. The card does not mean that the subject will die (not usually anyway), rather that a situation will be coming to a close, the subject is concluding unfinished business or going through a transition, maybe dumping old attitudes or prejudices. It can mean a parting of the ways between friends/lovers/work, and movement from the known and established towards the unknown. The subject could be caught in the path of inescapable changes and experiencing the unavoidable e.g. the manufacturing plant where they work is closing down. They may be putting the past behind them and making a new break e.g. Moving to a new town, eliminating past excesses and clutter thereby returning to the basics.
